The 8U Softball division is designed for girls ages 7 & 8. League age is determined by how old the player will be on January 1st. Among teammates of their own age and experience level, players begin building and refining their fundamental softball skills while they begin to understand game strategy. 8U softball is played under the official Babe Ruth Softball rules, but implements some special rules as necessary for the development and welfare of this young age group.
The game is played on a 60-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 32 feet. At this level a pitching machine is used from 32 feet. An eleven inch ball is used. Outs are recorded, innings are 3 outs or 5 runs. Games usually last 90 minutes. There is typically 1 practice and 1 game per week. As the season progresses girls will be introduced to different fundamentals of the game such as, pitching, sliding, leading, etc.
A highlight of Babe Ruth Softball is its annual tournament trail. 8U Tournament teams from each local league are eligible to participate in State competition with winners advancing to the Regional level.
